The newspaper is a junk item that the player can sell to make some extra money. It's only purpose is to display the current most important news, notably what item is banned or hints towards what item will be extra valuable in the next country the player will be travelling through, and changes as the player enters a new country in their journey.
It costs nothing, and can only be found in Motels.
The player can choose to take the newspaper to the store and sell it for 0.50 
for a little extra cash. It is important to note that the wallet displays a rounded value for the player's current cash on hand, while the game still tracks decimal values.
